Terms of use, and what this site is not.

About this website
The Qalam Research Institute is a reflective publication on psychology, history, manuscripts, and the intellectual traditions that have shaped how people understand themselves. By using the site you accept the terms set out below.
This is not therapy or medical advice
Nothing published here — essays, notes, service descriptions, or replies to correspondence — constitutes psychological, medical, or clinical advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment recommendation. It cannot be, because it is written without knowledge of your history or circumstances.
If something you read seems to describe you, treat that as a starting point for a conversation with a qualified professional who can assess your situation properly, not as a conclusion about it.
In an emergency
This site is not monitored, and correspondence is not read continuously. If you are in crisis, at risk of harming yourself, or worried about someone else's immediate safety, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line now. Do not wait for a reply from this address.
No professional relationship is formed here
Reading this site, or writing through the contact form, does not create a therapist–client relationship. Such a relationship begins only after an initial conversation, a clear agreement about the work, and the consent and intake process that goes with it.
On the nature of the writing
Much of what appears here is interpretive. It reads historical material, manuscripts, and older accounts of the mind alongside contemporary thinking, and it does so as an ongoing process of learning rather than a settled position.
Care is taken with sources and with clinical language, but no claim is made to exhaustive expertise across every subject touched on. Where a piece revises an earlier view, it says so. Read it as one reader's inquiry, offered in good faith.
Professional standing
Samreen Qureshi practises as a Resident in Counseling in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Counseling services are offered only where that standing permits, and geography matters for that: publication is open to everyone, but clinical work is not.
Intellectual property
The writing, wordmark, and design of this site belong to their author. You are welcome to quote briefly with attribution and a link. Republishing a piece in full, or reusing it to train commercial systems, requires permission first.
Historical images reproduced here are used editorially. Rights in the underlying works rest with their holders or, where the work is old enough, with the public.
Links elsewhere
Where a piece links out, it does so because the source is useful. Those sites are not under this site's control, and a link is not an endorsement of everything found there.
Availability and liability
The site is offered as it stands, without warranty that it will always be reachable, current, or free of error. To the fullest extent the law allows, no liability is accepted for loss arising from reliance on anything published here.
Changes
These terms may be revised. The date at the head of this page records the last revision, and continued use of the site after that date means the revised terms apply.
